June 25, 2010 - Shining Spark Offspring were Stars at 2010 NRCHA Derby
with over $110,000 in Earnings |
 Shining Spark Offspring were stars during the 2010 NRCHA Derby in Paso Robles, California. Shining Spark sons and daughters, as well as offspring out of Shining Spark daughters, took home over $110,062 in earnings from the 2010 event.
NRCHA Open Derby Shining Winners -
Tied for Third in the 2010 NRCHA Derby were:
A Shiner Named Sioux, ridden by Jay McLaughlin bringing home $21,685 in earnings,putting Sioux's current earnings at $100,000.
Shiners Nickle ridden by Todd Crawford for Michelle
Cannon.
Genuine Masterpiece (Shining Spark x Kings Masterpiece) Owned by Wagonhound, shown by Jay McLaughlin was 9th place.
Shiney Senorita (Shining Spark x Tarizana) Owned by Garth & Amanda Gardiner, shown by Todd Crawford was 11th place.
Shiney Sushi, ridden by Jay McLaughlin was 13th place.
A few other Shining Winners were:
Lil Miss Shiney Chex was 7th Open Bridle Spectacular taking her over the $94,000 LTE marker.
Shiners Diamond Girl was 8th Open Bridle Spectacular
Shock And Awe (Shining Spark x Starlights Slipper) was 5th place
Intermediate Non Pro Bridle: owned/ shown by Jody Melo.

2010 Hackamore Classic Open Two Rein  |
 
Jake Telford rode Kiss My Shiny Lips to top the field of 12 Open Two Rein entries at the 2010 National Reined Cow Horse Association Hackamore Classic. The Caldwell, Idaho trainer and the mare, by Shining Spark and out of Lipschic, were recently the Open Two Rein Reserve Champions at another NRCHA premier event – the NRCHA Stakes.

February 6, 2010 - Jay McLaughlin Wins 2009 NRCHA Open Hackamore
World Championship with CD Dee Vee Dee  |

The 2009 National Reined Cow Horse Association Open Hackamore World Championship went to Jay McLaughlin and CD Dee Vee Dee, who marked a 151 to take home $8,527. It was a bittersweet win for McLaughlin, who trained the talented gelding. CD Dee Vee Dee was bred and raised by Carol Rose, for whom McLaughlin is the head trainer. But he was recently sold to Shannon and Hershel Reid – and Jay showed him for the last time in San Angelo, Texas.

Top 2009 NRCHA Limited Open Bridle World Championships  |
 Ty Rohrbaugh won his first National Reined Cow Horse Association World title on Friday, February 6, at the First Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas on Shiners Spumanti. The Alamosa, Colorado trainer came into the arena as the last finalist in the Limited Open Bridle. While the resulting rein work score of 216 was impressive, Rohrbaugh and the 13-year-old mare clinched the title with a 221 in the cow work.

February 5, 2010 - Shiners Hot Flash by Shining Spark Wins
2009 NRCHA Limited Open Hackamore with Jeremy Knoles  |
Jeremy Knoles, of Gainesville, Texas, won the Limited Open Hackamore World Championship on Shiners Hot Flash, owned by Nikki Miller. Shiners Hot Flash topped the preliminary competition and came back to win the Finals with a 442. “It feels good to have a World Championship. I didn’t expect to win. She felt great in the preliminaries, but I didn’t know if she had another run like that in her,” noted Knoles. “But today she felt real good, and I had plenty of time to get her ready. Today in the dry work she felt better to me than she ever has – I think it’s the highest rein work score I have ever received.” Read the rest of the article>>

February 5, 2010 - Shining Lil Nic and Kevin Stallings Win 2009 NRCHA
Open Two Rein World Championship  |

Kevin Stallings is a busy man – he qualified three horses for the National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship Show Open Two Rein, and made the finals on all three! That would take a toll on anyone – but the Tucson, Arizona, trainer won not only the Championship, but also took home the Reserve title, and fourth place.
He won the World Championship on Shining Lil Nic, a 7-year-old stallion by Smart Shiner.

February 3, 2010 - Open Hackamore, Novice Non Pro Bridle, and Limited Open Bridle Finalists Announced for NRCHA World Championship Show Presented by John Deere  |

On Monday, Jay McLaughlin and CD Dee Vee Dee won the Circle Y Ranch Derby, and then returned to the arena floor in the Open Hackamore preliminaries to earn a 446 – leading the field of ten that will return for the clean-slate finals on Saturday. CD Dee Vee Dee, by CD Lights out of Shiners Missy Jay by Shining Spark, is owned by Shannon and Hershel Reid of Pilot Point, Texas. The bubble score in the Open Hackamore was a 434.5.

Nelle Murphy and Just A Sparknshine led the field of Non Pro Two Rein finalists with a score of 429.5. Just A Sparknshine, by Shining Spark and out of Just Kitty, is owned by Nelle’s father, Don Murphy.

In the Open Bridle, Jay McLaughlin piloted Lil Miss Shiney Chex to the high score with a 443.5 – sealing a finals berth. Lil Miss Shiney Chex, by Shining Spark and out of Little Miss Smarty Chex, is owned by Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas. The magic number to make the finals in the Open Bridle was a 435.

Jay McLaughlin, of Gainesville, Texas, rode CD Dee Vee Dee to win the Circle Y Ranch Southwest Reined Cow Horse Association Open Derby, held during the Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions in San Angelo, Texas. The win garnered a check for $10,000.

Competing first in the third set, McLaughlin rode CD Dee Vee Dee to a score of 150.5, winning the Rein Work and moving into a three-way tie for the composite lead with a 295.5. CD Dee Vee Dee, by CD Lights and out of Shiners Missy Jay, was bred and raised by Carol Rose, and recently purchased by Shannon and Hershel Reid.
