The preliminary competition at the 2009 National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship Show Presented by John Deere continued Wednesday with the Open Hackamore, Novice Non Pro Bridle, and Limited Open Bridle classes. The World Championship Show is part of the Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions, held at the First Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas.
On Monday, Jay McLaughlin and CD Dee Vee Dee won the Circle Y Ranch Derby, and then returned to the arena floor in the Open Hackamore preliminaries to earn a 446 – leading the field of ten that will return for the clean-slate finals on Saturday. CD Dee Vee Dee, by CD Lights out of Shiners Missy Jay by Shining Spark, is owned by Shannon and Hershel Reid of Pilot Point, Texas. The bubble score in the Open Hackamore was a 434.5.
Brad Barkemeyer led the 18-entry Limited Open Bridle on Hickorys Pepibella with a 441. Hickorys Pepibella, owned by Barbara Truex of Tucson, Arizona, is by Doc’s Hickory and out of Peppy La Belle. It took a 415 to advance to the finals in the Limited Open Bridle.
Suzon Schaal of Calgary, Alberta, Canada marked the high score in the Novice Non Pro Bridle with a 436.5. She was riding her horse, Genuine Brown Gal, by Listo Pollito Lena and out of Genuine Emerald. Exhibitors scoring a 423.5 and above earned a finals berth.

The Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions runs through February 7 at the First Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas. The event begins at 8am daily, with the exception of Sunday, February 7, when the World’s Greatest Horseman finals will begin at 10am.
