Lil Miss Shiney Chex and Jay McLaughlin

The 2010 National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship Show Presented by John Deere is under way at the Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions in San Angelo, Texas. The second day of preliminary competition saw finalists advance from the Open Bridle, Non Pro Bridle, and the Limited Open Hackamore. Although no prize money is awarded during the preliminary competition, there are thousands of dollars in added money for the finals of the three events.
In the Open Bridle, Jay McLaughlin piloted Lil Miss Shiney Chex to the high score with a 443.5 – sealing a finals berth. Lil Miss Shiney Chex, by Shining Spark and out of Little Miss Smarty Chex, is owned by Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas. The magic number to make the finals in the Open Bridle was a 435.
Frances Labourdette of Folsom, Louisiana, led the top ten Non Pro Bridle finalists with a score of 440 on Smart Chic Aloha, by Smart Chic Olena and out of Lei Aloha. Non Pro Bridle exhibitors with a score of 426 and above advanced to the finals.
It took a 418 to earn a spot in the clean-slate Limited Open Hackamore finals.

Shiners Miss Hot Flash and Jeremy Knoles

 

Jeremy Knoles and Shiners Hot Flash had the high composite score of the day with a 438. Shiners Hot Flash, owned by Nicole Miller of Gainesville, Texas, is by Shining Spark and out of Tarizana.

The Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions runs through February 7 at the First Community Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas. The event begins at 8am daily, with the exception of Sunday, February 7, when the World’s Greatest Horseman finals will begin at 10am.
